Monument in Santa Clara, Cuba, to remember the life of Che Guevara

Che Memorial

I visited Santa Clara in Cuba primarily to see this monument commemorating the life of Ernesto Guevara. The sun bursting from behind the clouds made my visit more significant. Che Guevara’s remains were returned from Bolivia buried beneath this memorial.

Santa Clara has a bustling cigar factory where I stayed opposite, and is known for its pre revolutionary Coca Cola factory. It is best known for the first major victory of the revolutionaries under the leadership of Che Guevara in 1958 that rang the death knell for Bastida’s dictatorship.
