To be honest, you've got hang about for a while to get to know the moggy, having a cup of tea with you is probably the best way to ingratiate myself with your cat.
The recipe is this then; hang around a while, follow around for a while, try to look disinterested, and with a bit of luck we've got the feline beauty on film and he/she didn't feel a thing.
